First Movie for the Internet

I watched “Girl Walks Into a Bar,” billed as the first motion picture made for the internet. Before I watched it I thought it must have been a “true indie” film, you know, like the ones made around $10,000 with unknown actors. I thought with the power of YouTube and a good story, YouTube would create a new channel for independent filmmakers overnight.

The cast included, Danny Devito, Josh Hartnett, Rosario Dawson, Robert Forster and lots of other people most of us have seen in many, many movies. The cast actually is fantastic. The acting is great. The directing is pretty good too.  I just wish the cast included no name actors. It would have been cool to know if people liked the movie because they already knew the cast, or if they liked it because the story was good.

In any event, this was probably a good development for indie filmmakers. If it does well, maybe YouTube or a section of it will become a legitimate distribution channel for some of us.
